Housing Lead (Independent Living)

Please note that this is a fixed term contract / secondment opportunity for a duration of 12 months.

This role is part of an exciting team working across the County Council’s responsibilities for housing growth and housing with support.
Essex County Council has recently relaunched an ambitious Independent Living Housing Programme to provide circa up to 1000 new contemporary homes for Older People, and is now scoping the future Programme for adults with learning disabilities and or/autism (LD&A)
The Housing Lead (Independent living) will drive forward the strategy and policy development of the programme. The post holder will work with commissioners to establish demand and map services to develop an agreed approach to supported living accommodation for Adults with Disabilities in Essex.

The last few years have seen a number of personnel changes within the council and this presents an amazing opportunity for someone that wants to be part of a newly shaped team. You will work with a newly elected administration to deliver the Council’s growth and commercial objectives.

Surrey Choices recently gained approval for a 5-year Joint Strategic Plan, and that means an exciting journey ahead while we deliver on a set of priorities which include very significant transformational activity as well as organic growth and business development.

This is a key role at this time. Reporting directly to the Managing Director, you will support Surrey Choices to drive the change we are looking for. The role will form part of the Senior Leadership Team along with other heads of service and will engage internal and external stakeholders to deliver innovative support to enable people with disabilities to live active and healthy lives in their local communities.

This is an exciting time for the Council’s planning function. The autumn will see the Council start consultations on a new Local Plan developed in partnership with Stoke on Trent City Council. Additionally, the Council will be embarking on a range of house building initiatives and the planning function will play a vital role in shaping how the organisation reaches its growth objectives. You will arrive and need to add value quickly to a range of pivotal projects including the master planning for Kidsgrove and working with Staffordshire County Council on master plans to maximise the use of land to transform vacant properties into new residential and commercial opportunities.
